I have bought all of the period undies in a local shop in Australia. Most of them are available in Woolworth & Coles. They are packed in an eye-catching designed box. I also bought some period undies from Kmart.

What are Period Undies?

Period undies, also known as menstrual underwear, are specially designed garments that provide an eco-friendly and comfortable alternative to traditional period products like pads and tampons. These absorbent undergarments come in various styles and absorbency levels to suit different menstrual flows, from light spotting to heavy days. They typically feature multiple layers of moisture-wicking, absorbent, and leak-resistant fabrics, making them a reusable and sustainable option. The main differences among period undies include absorbency capacity, fabric type (often organic or synthetic), and style, ranging from briefs to pads. The benefits of period undies include reducing waste, saving money over time, and offering a more comfortable, breathable experience during menstruation without the bulk of other products.

Most of them recommend to rinse them out after wear, then use a cold wash machine cycle or handwash and line dry them. Turn them inside out to dry. Do not iron or dry-clean. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Never tumble dry.

Pleasure & Toy Queen Review Summary

Over the last few years, I transitioned from tampons to reusable pads, and I can't believe I didn't make the switch sooner. I always preferred pads to tampons when I was younger, but those plastic pads weren’t exactly comfortable or breathable. They didn’t feel great for my vulva either. Then I discovered period undies and decided to give them a try. I thought, why not get a variety and review them? I’m so glad I did because there really are noticeable differences in brands, cuts, styles, and absorbency levels.

My favourite by far are the Thinx undies. They’re the most comfortable for me, thanks to the higher cut that doesn’t dig into my muffin top. I also appreciate the strong protection they offer, especially during the first two days of my period when my flow is heaviest. They feel snug and supportive around my bloated tummy, and I feel secure both day and night.

The Bonds full briefs are next in line for me. While not quite as comfortable as Thinx, they still provide good coverage. They’re designed for heavy days, so they offer more coverage in the back, which I really appreciate.

Modibodi ranks third for me. Their cut works well for me after the heavier days have passed. With moderate to heavy coverage, I feel comfortable and protected during the middle to the end of my cycle.

Tom Organic’s reusable pad is a great concept, especially with the button to secure it in place. However, I’ve noticed it tends to shift throughout the day, so I only use it on my lightest days when I’m spotting. Despite this, the pad feels much more comfortable than a traditional plastic pad.

Lastly, the Kmart period undies didn’t quite work for me. The cut isn’t very comfortable, but I do wear them towards the end of my period as “safety” undies when I still need some protection.

Overall, all of these options provided reliable protection against leaks. I didn’t experience any issues with odour or leaks. It really comes down to finding the right material, cut, and absorbency level that works for your body and preferences. Personally, I’ve embraced free-bleeding, and it feels so much more natural and comfortable for my body. Plus, it’s better for the environment. I'd love to hear about your experiences with period undies—what brands or styles have you tried and loved? Feel free to share your thoughts or recommendations in the comments
